Southeastern PA Sierra Club to host “Green and Clean Social” for Veterans

The Sierra Club will be sponsoring a “Green and Clean Social” for veterans at the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service and Education Center to teach veterans about environmental sustainability through several activities.

(Philadelphia, PA) –PVMSEC joins the Sierra Club in their efforts to combat environmental degradation by developing a program that aims to expose veterans to indoor and future outdoor activities. In fact, PVMSEC has already taken steps towards such preparation with their “Green Business Solutions” computer training program.

Tim Meserve, Executive Director of PVMSEC said, “Our recent ‘Green Business Solutions’ program has taught veterans, those who go on to work in many companies throughout the region, to utilize valuable skills, aimed at reducing waste, and minimizing our individual impact on the environment.”

With the support of such organizations as the Sierra Club, PVMSEC hopes to extend their current efforts by participating in hikes and other outdoor activities that will grant veterans an even greater appreciation for the ‘Go Green’ program. It will also give PVMSEC veterans, many struggling with reintegration, much needed repose.

PVMSEC kicks off National Hot Dog Month with Dietz and Watson

Dietz and Watson will donate and serve more than 250 hotdogs to veterans at PVMSEC today in celebration of National Hot Dog month.

(Philadelphia, PA) –Dietz and Watson employees will visit the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service and Education Center today to join PVMSEC’s mission of serving those who have served this great nation. They will donate and serve over 250 hot dogs to veterans in celebration of National Hot Dog Month.

The date, July 12th was carefully selected by Dietz and Watson in honor of a historical resolution approved and signed into law by Congress, which awarded the first “Personal Valor” medals to non-commissioned officers and privates that most distinguish themselves by their gallantry. The festivities will be held in remembrance of all veterans that received such medals, as well as the veterans of PVMSEC, who strive daily to overcome adversity such as homelessness and unemployment.

“Dietz and Watson’s celebration of personal valor is significant and complementary to the mission of our center. We hope that all veterans have the inner-strength and courage required to reach out to us, or to other resource centers, when in need,” stated Tim Meserve, Executive Director of PVMSEC, in response to Dietz and Watson’s initiative.

PVMSEC Awarded VA Grant Extension Aimed at Ending Veteran Homelessness

(Philadelphia, PA) –The VA announced today that Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grants would be extended for many private, non-profit organizations, including the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service and Education Center (PVMSEC). The SSVF program allows PVMSEC to provide services to very low-income Veteran families living in, or transitioning to permanent housing, with an aim to prevent at-risk Veterans from becoming homeless and rapidly re-house those who have recently fallen into homelessness.

PVMSEC is now able to continue their current SSVF efforts in Philadelphia and the newly awarded grants will enable them to partner with Catholic Social Services to expand ongoing efforts to Chester County. The partnership will afford a wide-range of services, which promote housing stability and offer Veterans and their family indispensable support.

“PVMSEC is excited to begin work with our partner Catholic Social Services, and to extend the SSVF grant Chester County, which will permanently house many veterans and their families.  Coupled with our transitional housing programs on the Coatesville VA Medical Center grounds, and the myriad of services that our partner provides, we plan to bring a seamless multi-service program to the veterans of Chester County,” stated Tim Meserve, Executive Director of PVMSEC, when informed of the extension.

"I am the wife of a Viet Nam Veteran. My husband started going to PVMSEC 10 years ago for help. No mere words could ever express how much his life and in turn our family life has changed for the better in those years. I am and always will be grateful for the wonderful care he has received at the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service Center & Education Center."
