VMC Hosts Conference to Empower Women Veterans

PHILADELPHIA, PA – May 5, 2015 – Veterans Multi-Service Center will host its first conference for Women Veterans this Saturday, May 9th at the Sheraton from 9:00AM-4:00PM.

The theme of this one-day conference is “United for Empowerment” and it is designed to highlight issues unique to female veterans.

The key note speaker will be Vietnam Veteran and Bronze Star recipient, Marsha Four who was recognized by the White House as a Champion of Change for Women Veterans. Four initiated the Philadelphia Stand Down for Homelessness and took the lead to establish the VMC’s Mary E Walker house, a nationally recognized transitional housing program for women veterans.

The rest of the morning will feature motivational women veteran speakers sharing their personal stories of challenges and triumph. Afternoon sessions will focus on topics like resiliency, benefits, transitioning from active duty to civilian life, and the tools to do so.

The conference follows the tremendous success of the VMC Womens Center which opened in January 2014 to address the specific needs of women veterans and ensure all women veterans have equitable access to benefits and resources. Since opening, over 500 women veterans have sought services from this program and the number is expected to continue to rise with the increasing women veteran population.

"I am the wife of a Viet Nam Veteran. My husband started going to PVMSEC 10 years ago for help. No mere words could ever express how much his life and in turn our family life has changed for the better in those years. I am and always will be grateful for the wonderful care he has received at the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service Center & Education Center."
